Also, I would encourage you to vote on what are the priority projects for Georgetown.

I find the pictures funny as, you have so many trees LMAO, you people here are forever weilding your chainsaws for any tree that gets in the way of said "progress" but wait give it five years when those trees are lovely and green cause then it will give you something more to chop down.
ReplyDeleteLet's face,your beating a dead horse here.
You may have the community spirit but that spirit only extends as far as the wheat and barley crops grow and to those who grow it!.
i find your plans exceptionally extravagant and would like to know where the millions of dollars and man hours is going to come from perhaps the CDA board will be able to help.
ReplyDeletesome good ideas some bad i think your wetlands will have some objection as i know i wouldn't like to live with more mozzies and to get water to fill these would require the removal of 13 dams between mount john and the town, floods happen infrequently here plus to restict more flow to the yakkamourundie is criminal. what we need here is to solve more of the towns problems in a conservative way like to get the council that we pay our rates to repair and upgrade the township (roads, footpaths etc) i find the facade concept mockable as the attitude's of people in this area are to rip down any buildings that are old even if they contain historic value to the town eg:stables at rear of hotel rooms which housed the first CWA meetings and many other very early dances or meetings in the town. This attitude still exists today, my house was built in 1878 and the only way it will be demolished is over my dead body, It holds its own historic value to me and my facade will not change.
This town is a small country town where things used to be simple. Do we really want to change that, we are not clare or handorf. I do however agree with the need to slow traffic through town and as long as there are no median strips in the middle of our (cattle track) main street i will agree with the plan. I would like to see cropping activity's on some of the parklands reduced as this is causing concern with children playing on streets with machines spraying crops etc 12 feet from where they are riding down the road (which happened recently)so to do what you have outlined would be good in that respect. I do agree with the plans to use stormwater to water the trees as long as it doesn't affect natural flows to the yakkamourundie creek too much. The plans for the new carpark at the bowling green will be ontop of the old croquet green and i think that it is a shame that no one will know that fact.
Federation park has alot of good idea's except for the movement of the museum I think JJ has done a fantastic job of collecting what he has and I think it will be hard to collect much more then this as this has taken him umpteen years of dedication to collect what he has (hence his hesitations to hand this over).the collection is great and fits nicely where it is.
All in all this plan is ok for the people that want to make a statement but for those of us that want to live a quiet rural life in the town that we grew up in it is a bit much.
Unfortunatley comments as per the post dated 14/08 at 9.56pm is what makes a town not progress. The plan is not to make a new Clare or Hahndorf. I am amazed at the comments and I quote " You may have the community spirit but that spirit only extends as far as the wheat and barley crops grow and to those who grow it!". It is the CDA who crops those parklands and the profits are what helps the CDA supports the local sporting clubs, support town functions and pay to upkeep most facilities (ie Playground, Federation Park etc)in Georgetown. You must ask yourself, is short sightedness making you see only what you want and to say that the only ones that will benefit from this are the ones that grow the crops, come on, get real.
ReplyDeleteI am sure the CDA would be open to complaints etc regarding the spraying of crops and could look at how they could manage this better. I hate the spraying too but I don't have any educated solutions. As far as I am aware the cropping of the parklands would be more enviromentally friendly now days than what it would have been many years ago.
We are a small town, why can't everyone just work together to achieve things that will be great for this town. We live in a beautiful place, and I agree, it is nice having a quiet rural life but you can't stop progress. Lets support the businesses we have here by trying to get tourists to stop for a drink or something to eat.
Have you taken the time to get involved with GIF who are looking at doing town walks with brochures that detail historic buildings......it is amazing what you find out when you get involved and it is amazing at how constructive you can be as well!
Did you come to vote at the public meeting and voice your concerns?
Don't loose sight of what the plan is about. Town Drainage is a council issue and both CDA and GIF have been working hard on getting this progressed through the council. This is a rate payers issue, not a places for people issue.
It is disappointing that there is this 'them and Us' mantality when we are loosing sight of what is important.
To me the plan is fantastic!! Well done to Nicole and Warick, who I took the time to meet. Even though I may not agree with everything in it I am more than willing to put in my bit and help to get the facilities and town so ALL will benefit. We are the future and lets work together to achieve.
Firstly, I think it funny that someone would make comment of the dangers to children with spraying of crops, but would have been happy to see the old stable collapse on children! Before you make comment on something, maybe you need to find out the reason why a structure is demolished first! And surely safety should take priority! Just like the post office, which at the moment, isn't safe. Happy or you to call in and discuss why the stables were demolished, but then again, my bet is I won't see you.
ReplyDeleteFirstly if "your"children are playing in the old stables well enough said, I know mine would not step foot on property that is not theirs maybe you should teach your kids better.
ReplyDeleteSecondly I have attended quite a few of the "CDA" meetings and to begin with I was excited and enthusiastic, but with in a few months of the Georgetown in to the future committee starting the usual bullshit happened, that is some one has to be the top dog, make it known that they hold the power, now you tell me where is the community spirit in that!
As for supporting the businesses here, hell I don't have an endless bank account where I can write cheque after cheque and not think twice about it, you should be asking "why is this town's only shop price gauging honest decent people" instead your asking me to pay $4.50 for a low grade bread, over $6 for chocolate, and the woolworths milk on the shelves don't even get me started on that.
Do what ever you like as we all know you will but hey how about you start fixing the things that are already broken before venturing on to something else, example how long has the council "fixing" the whirly girly down the park, council documents go back as far as August 2009 I believe?, road outside town hall and foot path on council side needs fixing, roads around town need bitumen,God we still have dirt roads in town to peoples houses how backwards is that maybe you should implement something for the bigger kids IE: skate park, my kid asked me other day can we move as this place is boring and there is nothing here for kids, my kid is right the only reason to live here is it's cheap living, but I guess that won't last long.
TO THE FUTURE......BROKE AND BORED
oh also the chick sitting at the front of the shop ON HER MOBILE PHONE ......FUNNY what reception is she getting LMAO...........mobile phone working in Georgetown..LOL, hey there is something you can do that is constructive when you get bored with the other sh*t, push to upgrade the phone system here mobile and landline
ReplyDeleteYour kids wouldn't have needed to venture onto private property for the stables to be a safety concern, If you would like to open your eye's instead of looking down that tunnel you live in, you would have noted that there is a laneway at the rear!
ReplyDeleteIf your that disappointed in Georgetown, then maybe you should move!
ps: I'm not surprised that your analog phone doesn't work anymore, they now have digital!
Cheers,
Max
