Dear All
This first posting is really to get things going......to ask you what you like about Georgetown. What are the important places, where would you take visitors to the Town, what works and what does not. Are there things that you like to do in Georgetown and what would you like to do.
We are looking for your ideas, how you see Georgetown and how it might change in the future....Georgetown into the Future.

Welcome to Georgetown Urban Framework process. Some ideas for consideration are:
ReplyDeleteConsider ways to slow the traffic down through the main street of the town.
Sails that are to be erected in the playground to be considered in the urban design to ensure they do not detract from the significance of the Memorial gates and the flag poles in the local park.
We do not have to pay to park your car in the street. Easy to get a park in the main street.
ReplyDeletewhat a fantastic idea and a great way for us to put our ideas down. Will have a think and write some stuff later but really the main think that i think needs to stay in Georgetown is that real sense of community where everybody knows everybody and the whole community pulls together in time of need or celebration. It is a safe and friendly place where you can walk the street at midnight or send your child to the playground and feel safe
ReplyDeleteI am testing to see if this is working as there has not been any other entries. Georgetown is a town which is seeing redevelopment occurring on the southern end of town. There is demonstration of pride in the town however there are some areas we need to work on. The playground is a great asset to the town with many visitors stopping to use the facility of pulling up in their caravans etc and staying overnight
ReplyDeleteI agree with the above comments, georgetown is a beautiful place to live and bring up childre.
ReplyDeleteBut it would be good to get something in the main street to slow the traffic, then people can actually see what Georgetown is really like.
A majorty of people take pride in there houses here and would be good to see more of that
We are testing to ensure we area set up to comment on the urban planning

ReplyDeleteI think Georgetown really needs entrance signs that are beautiful. Currently we have two small signs that are seen in the blink of an eye. I think an entrance sign either end that is different to Gladstone but catchy and innovative would be great!
ReplyDeleteGeorgetown also has sporting clubs to keep it going. Some of these sites hold some historical importance to the town, so maybe we could also focus on these. Lets spruce up the gates at the oval and try and assist the Cricket club in getting the oval up to scratch to try and keep the cricket ground being used so Cricket will continue to get played here.
Georgetown is a great community and I hope everyone uses this opportunity to bring that 'something else' to add to the town.
I agree this is a nice place to live offering a sense of security and freedom not apparent in the city, suburbs or even larger towns. The kids feel free & safe to roam even if it is really just an illusion.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I really agree with the comment about everyone knowing each other. I've lived here for eight years and don't know everyone. There are quite a lot of people who have come into town, even since I moved here, whom I've not met though I suppose their immediate neighbours at least would have.
I realise that part of the reason for me not knowing or interracting with most of the people here is that I have not become involved with any of the sports, churches or social groups in the town. My interests lie elsewhere though I am happy to share these if anyone is interested. I'm not the only person who doesn't participate in many communal activities.
From my perspective, I think there is a distinct lack of sense of community and communication among the people of this community beyond already established cliques.
I frequently feel a great sense of social isolation even when I do try to make connections with people in the community. I don't think I'm alone in this feeling of isolation either. It is perhaps a problem in society generally. Not one I have an easy solution for.
We agree with Hodos comment on the entrance signage, but also for the towns walkers the footpaths are of major concern. Other issues of concern is the storm water during heavy rain and slowing the traffic in the main street. We love our little town and are looking forward to the improvements in the future.
